The airwaves across Detroit and Windsor are a little sadder Thursday morning.
Longtime Detroit radio personality Ken Calvert, who was heard on various stations for over 40 years, has died. WXYZ-TV reported that Calvert passed away Wednesday night.
He was 72. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
The Detroit-area native worked for several radio stations, mostly those with a rock format such as WRIF-FM (101.1), and most recently at WCSX-FM (94.7), when he retired in 2013. He also worked in the mid-90s as the midday host on WJR-AM (760), where his deep voice and easygoing on-air style earned him the moniker "The Casual One".
Calvert was also known as the 16-year public address announcer for the Detroit Pistons, and was a big part of the team's success in the late 1980s and early 1990s when the Pistons won two NBA titles.
Pistons legend Isiah Thomas went to X, formerly known as Twitter, to pay tribute.
Most recently, Calvert hosted a podcast, "The Ken Calvert Show".
