As 2023 passes into the pages of history, many business owners in Windsor-Essex will pause to welcome 2024.
All municipal offices in Windsor-Essex are closed on Monday, January 1, 2024. Any additional closing dates may vary, so check with your municipality for confirmation.
There will be no Canada Post delivery on Monday. All Service Ontario branches are closed, while some transactions can be performed online.
Many chain restaurants and big-box stores will be closed or on abbreviated hours on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Access to some restaurants may be restricted due to special New Year's Eve events. Be sure to call ahead to avoid disappointment.
Devonshire Mall and Tecumseh Mall in Windsor are both open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and closed Monday. Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year's Eve and closed New Year's Day.
All Beer Store locations will close at 6 p.m. Sunday and remain closed on Monday. The same applies to all LCBO outlets.
All of the public school boards that serve Windsor-Essex will reopen on Monday, January 8, 2024. St. Clair College staff and faculty may report back to work on Tuesday, with the winter semester beginning on January 8.
At the University of Windsor, offices reopen on Wednesday, and the winter semester begins that day for law, continuing education students, and year-four nursing. Year-two and year-three nursing students begin orientation on Thursday. All other students begin classes on Monday, January 8.
Windsor Public Library branches are closed on Sunday and Monday. The Essex County Library is also closed those two days.
The City of Windsor's 311 call centre is closed through Tuesday, January 2. The 211 call centre will be open 24 hours as usual.
Residential and commercial garbage collection will not take place on Monday and will be delayed one day. Refer to your collection schedule for details. Commercial garbage pickup and weekly recycling will continue as usual.
The public drop-off and household chemical waste depot at E.C. Row and Central Ave will be closed on Sunday and Monday.
All Windsor community centres are closed on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The city's arenas will close at 2 p.m. Sunday and remain closed Monday. The WFCU Centre pool will close at 2 p.m. Sunday and stay closed on New Year's Day.
The Windsor Spitfires will host the Sarnia Sting in its traditional New Year's Eve matinee, at 2:05 p.m. Sunday at the WFCU Centre.
The city's Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H-4) at Windsor Water World will be open Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and until 2 p.m. Monday.
Adventure Bay Family Water Park is open every day from 12 noon to 4 p.m. through the winter break.

There will be no parking enforcement in Windsor on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day, and all metered parking will be free. Garages and service lots will be paid as normal. Parking enforcement payment offices remain closed until Tuesday, January 2.
The Chimczuk Museum and Francois Baby House are both open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New Year's Eve, but are closed New Year's Day.
The Bright Lights holiday spectacular at Jackson Park is open every night from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., through Sunday, January 7.
Transit Windsor will operate on the Sunday schedule on Sunday and Monday. The downtown transit terminal will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, but will be closed Monday. There will be no tunnel bus to Detroit on New Year's Day.
