Curlers at Roseland Golf and Curling Club have started a petition to keep the curling operations at the club.
During Monday's budget deliberations, Windsor City Council passed a motion for the administration to write a report on the redevelopment of the clubhouse and the future of curling.
In 2020, the city hired a golf course consulting firm to complete a business plan for the future of the club. The business plan was followed by a feasibility study in 2021.
Both studies suggested redeveloping the clubhouse for the golf club by removing the curling facilities.
City administration indicated more public consultation will be completed before any recommendations are made. All recommendations will need to come before the city council for approval
“The curling community is prepared to work with the City towards a mutually satisfactory outcome that does not sacrifice one recreational group, curlers for another, golfers," said Terry Fink.
The 10-year capital budget designates $4.9 million for the redevelopment of the club.
There are currently seven leagues operating out of Roseland Golf and Country Club. Around 350 curlers use the facility on a regular basis.
