Caesars Entertainment has some competition for the licence on Windsor's gaming and entertainment complex.
The operating rights for the complex, currently known as Caesars Windsor, are up for renewal. In October 2023, Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to find an operator.
According to The Globe and Mail, three potential bidders have emerged, and all are well-established casino operators. They were identified in the story as Caesars Entertainment, Bally's Corporation, and Indigenous-owned Mohegan Entertainment.
Mohegan operates the two gaming halls in the Niagara Falls area. Bally's manages over a dozen properties in the U.S.
OLG has not confirmed the bidders, as the procurement process is secret. The paper has also not identified the sources as they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly. OLG had earlier indicated it would not comment again until an operator was named.
Caesars will operate the complex through at least August 2025.
The casino opened in 1994 with a temporary location at the site of the current Art Windsor-Essex and Chimczuk Museum. The current complex opened in the summer of 1998 as Casino Windsor and was renamed Caesars Windsor in 2006. Caesars has always had at least partial operation of the property.
A bidding winner is expected to be named by OLG sometime this fall.
