The French-language Catholic school board serving much of southwestern Ontario has made a schedule adjustment ahead of a solar eclipse.
According to a letter obtained Tuesday afternoon by WindsorNewsToday.ca, Conseil scolaire catholique Providence will keep its elementary and secondary students home on Monday, April 8. The off day will be achieved by shifting a scheduled PA educational day from Friday, April 12.
"This decision was taken out of an abundance of caution, as the eclipse will occur at a time when students would be on their way home," read the letter. "By bringing forward the pedagogical day to April 8, we want to offer our students the opportunity to experience this rare and extraordinary celestial event with their families in complete safety."
CSC Providence is the latest Ontario school board to announce a change in its schedule to accommodate the eclipse. Others have decided to send students home early, learn from home, or shift a PA day.
The region will witness a rare total solar eclipse on April 8, when the moon moves between the earth and the sun, blocking out the sun's light.
Experts have warned people about the danger associated with viewing the eclipse with the naked eye, as it may cause eye damage or blindness. The event should only be viewed through special lenses or with projectors.
CSC Providence also announced that daycare facilities within their school buildings will stay open on April 8 as usual.
