UPDATE: Vollmer Centre pool closed again after swimmer injury

Monday's reopening of the aquatic centre at LaSalle's Vollmer Complex was short-lived, after a swimmer injured themselves during a lesson.

The pool area of the complex had reopened after a deer crashed through a window and jumped into the water Sunday afternoon. The animal came in near the hot tub and swam in the large pool before staffers corralled it out of the facility.

With the approval of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, the pool area was cleaned and the pool was disinfected. Staff raised chlorine levels, backwashed the pool, and then brought chlorine levels back to normal.

The pool reopened but was closed again late Monday afternoon, after a swimmer cut their foot on a piece of glass that was still at the bottom of the pool.

"Although the pool had been vacuumed for several hours today, and has also been backwashed, it is difficult to see glass on the bottom of the pool," read a release from the Town of LaSalle Monday night. "Staff are considering further maintenance options including the services of a scuba diver to scan the bottom of the pool."

With both the pool and hot tub closed until further notice, the Town has offered credits to those who have registered for swimming sessions that have had to be cancelled. Updates will be provided as the information changes, and the Town has apologized for any further inconvenience.
