Trudeau speaks to auto unions during visit to Windsor

During a visit to Windsor Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke to union leaders about auto investments and anti-scab legislation.

Speaking to media after the private talks, Trudeau said government investments will help to create more opportunity and drive down the city's high unemployment rate.

"We know there is an opportunity to draw in investment here in Windsor where great things have gotten built for a very very long time. We're going to continue to work to grow the economy and create the opportunities for Windsorites and indeed workers right across the country," said Trudeau.

Trudeau also noted that as the electric vehicle industry is built up they are working on ways to ensure EVs are more affordable for Canadians.

"We're going to continue to make sure that people understand that EVs are a part of the future in every possible way," said Trudeau. "We're always going to look at ways of making sure they are affordable for people even as we build the industry."

The government incentive program for purchases of electric vehicles is set to expire next year.

Unifor Local 200 President John D'Agnolo said the talks with Trudeau about the investments the government has made and continues to make were very positive.

"We talked about continuing that important investment cause it will continue. This is our future, we need the money from the government to be successful and I discussed that also," said D'Agnolo.
