Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island is helping people plan for a once in a lifetime event that will hit the region next month.
On April 8, for the first time in 200 years, a total solar eclipse will be visible in parts of Essex County including Leamington, Kingsville, and Colchester.
The partial phase of the eclipse will start around 1:58 p.m. and end around 4:28 p.m. Totality should take place between 3:12 p.m. and 3:15 p.m.
The team at TWEPI has put together the Solar Eclipse Event Guide to help people find the best spot to look up at the sky.
"We continue to add things to our website. Not only is there the event guide but it's more information around the actual science of it and at the same time there's some tips on how to be safe to witness it," said TWEPI Executive Officer Gordon Orr.
Primary public access points to view the eclipse include Point Pelee National Park, Seacliff Park and Beach, Hillman Marsh and Colchester Beach and Harbour.
Many wineries, hotels, restaurants and other tourist destinations are hosting ticketed events that afternoon.
"There is a lot of interest. We know that it is going to be a very unique day for us and we're very excited," said Orr "I know the community is going to be looking up at that solar eclipse and enjoying the time they have."
