The City of Windsor has combined two late spring traditions into a big event.
On Saturday, Windsor will celebrate its 132nd birthday by shifting its annual birthday celebration to the WFCU Centre, pairing it with the popular Meet-a-Machine event. The combined events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Previously, the city's birthday party was held in the downtown core.
Mayor Drew Dilkens and members of City Council will cut a ceremonial cake, and attendees will enjoy free cupcakes while supplies last. The event will also feature live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and information booths.
Meet-a-Machine is presented by the City's Children's Services Department, and it is a rare opportunity for people to get up close and personal with emergency vehicles, construction equipment, military vehicles, tow trucks, and others.
To help promote literacy, free activity books and activities will be available.
A sensory-friendly hour will be offered from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., but pre-registration is required.
As part of the City's June Family Fun Weekend, the Chimczuk Museum and Art Windsor-Essex will also offer free admission on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
WIFF Under the Stars, a free, outdoor exhibition of films, is being offered all weekend in the Vision Corridor green space adjacent to the Chimczuk and art museums.
