Windsor offers ways for people to beat the heat

The City of Windsor has reminded residents that there are plenty of places to cool off as the region bakes this week with a heat wave.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning with temperatures reaching the mid-30s every day this week, and humidex ratings in the lower-40s. Relief is not expected until this coming weekend.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued an extended heat warning until further notice.

Windsor's 11 public splash pads are open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sandpoint Beach in East Riverside has a lifeguard on duty every day from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., weather and water quality permitting.

Water filling stations and fountains are available for anyone who visits the City's recreation centres and arenas.

All branches of the Windsor Public Library and all the City's customer care centres also provide respite from the heat.

The Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H-4) at Windsor Water World is open for those who are homeless and want a cool place. It is open every day from 8 a.m. to midnight.
