Contract negotiations continue with Windsor Public Library employees

There could be a strike at the Windsor Public Library if a deal isn't reached by the end of the month.

CUPE Local 2067.01 has been negotiating for its 70 members since January.

Local 2067 President Dan Rutherford said their main concern is the board's intentions to open more branches on Sundays.

"We're all for a true expansion if that's what the employer wants and the citizens of Windsor want, but not at a net-zero increase. We're already stretched pretty thin at times so to stretch us even thinner is a problem," said Rutherford.

Currently, three branches are open on Sundays and the shifts are covered voluntarily.

Rutherford is concerned opening Sundays without a budget increase would mean a decrease of hours throughout the week.

The two sides are scheduled to meet for negotiations on Tuesday.

"We are hoping to get a deal done before then. We will be available every day to bargain if they employer is willing to bargain with us," said Rutherford.
