Windsor Police are preparing for huge crowds along the city's riverfront on Monday night for the Ford Fireworks.
Each year after the event, drivers contend with lengthy delays on city streets as hundreds of vehicles clog the roads on their way back home.
Police hope residents will consider walking, biking, or taking a Transit Windsor shuttle bus to and from the riverfront instead and save drivers the hassle.
The shuttle will pick up passengers at Sydney Avenue at Devonshire Mall and drop them off at Wyandotte Street East and MacDougall Avenue downtown starting at 6 p.m. Following the fireworks display, residents can catch the bus back to Devonshire Mall until 12:15 a.m.
Transit Windsor bus fare city-wide is free starting at 6 p.m. on Monday.
The City of Windsor is closing several streets downtown at 6 p.m. to accommodate the crowds. Riverside Drive will be closed between Devonshire Road and the Ambassador Bridge, and Ouellette Avenue will shut down between Wyandotte Street and the riverfront. Many side streets will also close, and police say any vehicle parked in the restricted area will be towed.
