Leamington honours this year's Mayor's Recognition Award recipients

A key figure in local sports, the man who conceived the idea of an Onthe42 Summer Concert Series, and an actress are among this year's recipients of the Mayor's Recognition Awards in Leamington.

"The Mayor's Recognition Awards celebrate the outstanding contributions and achievements of our community members," said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. "Each of these winners has made a significant impact, reflecting the spirit and dedication that make Leamington a great place to live."

This year, the municipality received 18 submissions evaluated by the Mayor's Recognition Awards Committee.

The Community Inspiration Recipient is St. John the Evangelist, Anglican Church. Its members prepare and distribute meals weekly to some of Leamington's most vulnerable residents. Food and clothing supported nearly 9,600 people.

One of the Mayor's Special Awards was awarded posthumously to Evelyn Miller, who volunteered with the Erie Shores Hospice for 40 years and was deeply involved in community and international missions through the Leamington United Church.

A second Mayor's Special Award recipient is Michelle Fortier, whose tireless work has transformed The Bank Theatre into a vibrant community hub.

The Mayor's Special Award for Innovation went to John Moran, who revitalized Leamington's waterfront by attracting diverse audiences to the Onethe42 Summer Concert Series.

Bob Rumble won the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award for leading the Leamington Lightning soccer team to a championship season. Rumble has coached multiple teams and volunteered for the Leamington Minor Soccer League.

The award winners were honoured earlier last week at a special meeting of the Leamington Municipal Council.
