The Town of Tecumseh is mourning the passing of a longtime community volunteer and former councillor.
Doreen Ouellette, who served on Town Council from 1986 to 2003, died Thursday with her family at her side. She was 90.
Mayor Gary McNamara has ordered flags in the Town to be lowered to half-staff.
"Doreen was not only a dedicated council member but also a dear friend to many in our community," said McNamara. "Her tireless work and genuine care for the people of Tecumseh have made our town a better place. We will miss her wisdom, her kindness, and her unwavering commitment to public service. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time."
Ouellette also served on Tecumseh's Police Service Board and was the Town's Senior of the Year in 2014.
According to an obituary by Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, Ouellette was known as the "Queen of Tecumseh" for her tireless work in the community. She was active with the Tecumseh Corn Festival and Iris House Windsor.
Visitation is set for Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Windsor Chapel Funeral Home's Banwell Chapel, at 11677 Tecumseh Road East. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. Monday, up to the start of a chapel service at 11 a.m. Entombment will be at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
The family asks that instead of flowers, donations be made in Ouellette's name to Transition To Betterness.
