The RCMP say they’ve found evidence that proves that the Government of India is tied to homicides and violent acts across Canada.
They shared some of their findings on Monday after investigating claims that criminal activity was being orchestrated by agents of the government. This all stems from the homicide of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia last June.
Their investigations found proof of violent extremism impacting both countries, the use of organized crime to create a perception of an unsafe environment targeting the South Asian Community in Canada, and interference into democratic processes.
Specifically, the RCMP found evidence of Indian Diplomats and consular officials based in Canada leveraging their official positions to collect information for the Government of India.
They also claim people and businesses in Canada were coerced and threatened into working for the Government of India by collecting information that can be used to target members of the South Asian community.
According to the 2021 census, over 2.3 million Canadians reported to have South Asian ethnicity. This includes more than 20,000 in Windsor, nearly 2,000 in Sarnia, around 1,400 in Chatham-Kent, and 175 in Huron County.
All this evidence has been presented directly to Government of India officials and the National Investigation Agency.
