The Ontario Provincial Police want to make sure everyone has a safe Halloween so it's offering some tips to make sure that happens to parents, trick-or-treaters, and drivers.
"Halloween is all about fun, but safety comes first," said a release from the Essex County detachment. "Let's make sure the only surprises this Halloween are sweet ones."
For trick-or-treaters, the OPP emphasize the importance of being seen. It suggests wearing bright, reflective clothing and carrying a glow stick or flashlight. Other suggestions include heading out with a buddy or a responsible adult and having an adult inspect your haul before eating.
Sidewalks and crosswalks are a trick-or-treaters friend ensuring no accidents marr the night, and police urge little ones to look both ways before crossing the road.
For drivers, slow down and watch for children darting out into the road. The OPP also urges drivers to stay off their cellphone while driving.
