Bright Lights Windsor adds new displays and licensed tent

Bright Lights Windsor is back for another season with new displays and more offerings.

Additions this year include a northern lights-themed area, a fireworks light display, and a 17-foot-tall moose.

"I think this is going to be another great year. Every year we try to add something new, keep it fresh and make it interesting to come back and see," said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. "We've had 100,000 people come every year, this year is no different people are going to want to come and see some of the great sights."

A Chalet has been added to the area that usually houses the holiday vendors market. This will be a licensed area that will offer food and drinks by Windsor Eats. It will be open Thursdays through Sundays.

"We get feedback each and every year about what people would like to see. They looked at what's happening in across the river in Detroit with Campus Martius where there is a licenced area near the ice rink," said Dilkens. "People said why can't we have that in Windsor so we found a way to work with Windsor Eats."

Each year, Bright Lights Windsor costs around $500,000 to operate. Dilkens said new additions are made possible by event sponsors.

Sensory-friendly nights are also back on Mondays. The lights will be on, but the sound will be muted, and all strobe elements will be turned off.

Opening ceremonies for the event will be held on Friday November 29 at 6:30 p.m. The lights will shine seven days a week from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. until January 7, 2025.
