A charity five-kilometre run has helped support two Windsor-Essex groups.
The Run With Responders 5K, held in July, raised $12,000. The Canadian Mental Health Association Windsor-Essex County Branch and the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will split the proceeds.
The cheques were presented during a media event Wednesday morning at Windsor Fire Headquarters.
Windsor Fire Chief Stephen Laforet said the run was a huge success.
"The race day saw 370 participants, and they ran with 56 first responders," said Laforet. "This event serves as another example of what our community can do when it comes together."
Co-organizer Dave Orshinsky said that was apparent considering the conditions on race day.
"It was held on an extremely hot day, on Sunday, July 28, where there was not a piece of shade to be found anywhere on the property," said Orshinsky.
The Run With Responders 5K came following the overwhelming success of the 2022 Police Fire Can-Am Games, which were held in Windsor.
The Windsor Police Association, Subaru Windsor, and the Windsor Port Authority acted as presenting partners.
The third annual Run With Responders 5K is Sunday, July 27, 2025.
