After a tumultuous week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has made significant changes to his inner circle.
Trudeau added eight Liberal Members of Parliament (MPs) to his front bench and reassigned four current ministers on Friday.
Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc took over the top economic spot on Monday, following former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's resignation from the post. He'll pass the public safety portfolio over to Ontario MP and current chair of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) David McGuinty.
Other MPs joining cabinet include:
Nathaniel Erskine-Smith - is the next Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities. Erskine-Smith takes over for Sean Fraser, who announced on Monday that he would not be running for re-election.
Ruby Sahota - becomes Minister of Democratic Institutions and the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. She succeeds outgoing minister Filomena Tassi.
Darren Fisher - is the new Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Defence Minister.
Joanne Thompson - takes on the role of Minister of Seniors. Seamus O'Regan left the position open when he resigned from cabinet.
Élisabeth Brière - takes over as Minister of National Revenue for Marie-Claude Bibeau, who isn't running for re-election.
Rachel Bendayan - becomes Canada's Minister of Official Languages and Associate Minister of Public Safety.
Terry Duguid - will be Minister of Sport and the minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada.
Cabinet ministers whose roles are changing include:
Anita Anand - who had been doing double duty as Treasury Board president and Minister of Transport. She becomes Minister of Transport and Internal Trade.
Steven MacKinnon - retains the role as Minister of Labour. He adds another portfolio to his resume, picking up the role of Minister of Employment, Workforce Development from Randy Boissonnault, who left cabinet last month.
Gary Anandasangaree - maintains his position as Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations. He also picks up the Minister of Northern Affairs and Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency positions from Dan Vandal who isn't running for re-election.
Ginette Petitpas Taylor - becomes President of the Treasury Board.
"Our team is focused on the things that matter most to you – making life more affordable, growing the economy, and creating good jobs for the middle class," said Trudeau of the cahnges. "Together, we will keep building a strong future for the middle class, and for all Canadians."
Trudeau is facing mounting pressure, from outside and within his party, to resign as Prime Minister.
Federal New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh renewed his call for Trudeau to quit on Friday morning, posting a letter to social media.
