Six local organizations are celebrating a boost from the federal government to support tourism in the region.
Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) Ruby Sahota announced $1.4 million of funding for 10 organizations across southern Ontario. The majority of the funds have been dedicated to organizations in the region.
"That just shows that there's a special uniqueness to this area. You are doing the work necessary to bring people into this area so that they to can experience Windsor," said Sahota.
The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County was awarded $45,000 for the 50th Carrousel of Nations festival.
“Carrousel of the Nations is a staple within the Windsor-Essex community and a top festival event in all of Ontario. This year, we celebrate 50 years, and the support from FedDev Ontario will be instrumental in providing the best Carrousel of the Nations event in 2025,” said Fred Francis, Executive Director of the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County.
The Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Village in Kingsville received $100,000 to help create a Christmas Village experience that started in 2024.
Jack Miner Migratory Bird Foundation was also awarded $100,000 to develop and implement an experiential tourism package and bird-banding workshop.
Another $200,000 was awarded to Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island to enhance and promote regional trails.
The Town of Tecumseh was awarded $35,000 to develop a tourism marketing strategy.
Finally, the Windsor International Film Festival was awarded $350,000 for the 2024 film festival that took place in October.
