A local food manufacturer is getting a $1-million boost from the federal government to help expand their operations.
Cedar Valley is using the Federal Economic Development Agency loan for Southern Ontario to add specialized equipment to improve production efficiency in its new 12,000-square-foot facility.
"Their product is great and we want to see Canadian products on our shelves and we want to see Canadian products across the world. It is the government's job to make sure that we're there to support manufacturing in the sector," said Minister Ruby Sahota, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
Cedar Valley currently has 29 employees at its manufacturing facility and plans to hire more as they expand.
"Really this will let us become the number one pita chip company in Canada and then a really big competitor in the United States because we are going up against a big conglomerate as a small family company so we do have a big challenge on our hands but we're very excited to see that growth," said Ameen Fadel, president and co-founder of Cedar Valley.
