Ontario Trillium Foundation supports Harmony in Action

Harmony in Action is celebrating the completion of renovations to its facility thanks to grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

With the funds, the not-for-profit organization that provides day programming for people with developmental disabilities, installed wheelchair-accessible ramps on all entrances.

"All of our entrances are now completely safe for all of our participants be it walkers or individuals in wheelchairs to be able to come and go from the building," said Elizabeth Esposito, executive director of Harmony in Action.

The second grant allowed the organization to build a Snoezelen room. A Snoezelen room is a multisensory environment designed to provide a relaxing, stimulating, and therapeutic experience.

"This is a wonderful addition to our program. It provides services to our participants that otherwise, they would not be able to receive in the community. When a participant comes to Harmony and they're having a bad day or they're having an anger issue if they're not feeling well, we can put them in the Snoezelen Room and it just totally calms them down," said Esposito.

Harmony in Action is looking to expand its services in the community to provide a group home setting for its participants. It plans to start a capital fundraising campaign later this year.
