Drugs seized near Pain Court thanks to some high-tech help

Four locals have been arrested and face multiple charges after Chatham-Kent police allege officers found illegal drugs in a vehicle.

CK police said that the vehicle was searched and 39.1 grams of purple fentanyl was seized on Tuesday after an alert from the Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) System notified police the vehicle had been reported stolen from Walpole Island.

An off-duty officer recognized the vehicle at a convenience store in Tilbury and contacted police dispatch, according to police.

Moments later, police said the vehicle was seen passing an officer on patrol on Grand River Line, the officer followed the vehicle, but it missed a turn on Winterline Road just south of Pain Court and turned into a private driveway.

A 38-year-old male from Wallaceburg, a 30-year-old female from Wallaceburg, a 42-year-old female from Wallaceburg, and a 40-year-old male from Windsor were arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime, possession of illegal drugs for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of an illicit substance.

"The Chatham-Kent Police Service continues to combat drug trafficking and is committed to ensuring the safety of our residents," said CK police.
