95 per cent of students compliant with vaccination legislation

The Windsor and Essex County Health Unit says the vast majority of elementary and secondary school students have updated their vaccination records, but there are still thousands at risk of suspension from school.

As of February 22, 95 per cent of students are compliant with the Immunization of School Pupils Act.

Another 1,700 elementary students face suspension from school on March 3 if their records are not updated by Thursday. The deadline for high school students facing suspension on March 17 is March 13.

The health unit stresses there's still time to avoid suspension. Parents can call their child's healthcare provider to get any vaccinations the student is missing or update records with the health unit. Walk-in clinics may also offer immunizations.

Once vaccinations and records are updated, it's up to the parent to share that information with the health unit. That can be done online or in person at 1005 Ouellette Avenue in Windsor or in Leamington at 33 Princess Street.
