Over $81K raised during Windsor's polar plunge

Hundreds of people in the Windsor area braved the cold weather to raise funds for Special Olympics Ontario.

The annual polar plunge took place Friday night with 320 people jumping into ice cold water.

The event was able to raise over $81,000, a new record.

Among those who took part were several members of the Windsor Police Service. This included Police Chief Jason Bellaire.

"Shoutout to our fellow first responders, law enforcement agencies, St. Clair College and everyone who joined this event and raised money for a great cause," read a statement from Windsor police.

Windsor is one of several communities who hold polar plunges annual in support of Special Olympics Ontario. Some of the upcoming fundraisers are happening in Ottawa, Waterloo, and Brantford.
