The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has confirmed additional measles cases in the region.
In an update Monday evening, the health unit reported the second and third measles cases, and more may be coming.
"Additional cases and exposure risks are expected over the coming days and weeks," read the release from the health unit. "We are working closely with neighbouring health units as part of a provincial response and are in regular communication with the Ontario Ministry of Health regarding the situation in Windsor and Essex County."
The first case was reported last week, involving someone connected with Cornerstone Christian Academy in Ruthven.
The health unit has once again emphasized the importance of vaccination.
"For those who are unvaccinated, the risks for measles are serious and can include pneumonia, deafness, brain inflammation, and in the most severe cases, death," read the release.
The health unit added that those born before 1970 are considered immune to measles. Also, those born after 1970 who have not received two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine may need an additional dose.
Kids aged one to 17 need two doses to be immune.
If you don't know your vaccination status, contact your healthcare provider to determine whether a dose is necessary. If you don't have a healthcare provider, contact Virtual Urgent Care or Health811.
The health unit also requests that anyone who was in these locations at the times and days provided monitor themselves for symptoms.
