Open houses on Pelee Coastal Resilience Plan happening in Wheatley & Kingsville

Two open houses are being held in Wheatley about strengthening a large section of the Lake Erie shoreline.

The Pelee Coastal Resilience Committee is holding the meetings on Monday at the Village Resource Centre, with the first happening from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the second from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The committee has been in operation for over a year, developing a Coastal Resilience Action Plan for the shoreline, extending from Amherstburg, at the mouth of the Detroit River, to the Port Alma area of Chatham-Kent.

Currently, they have six concepts.

"These are ideas, approaches, physical modifications that can be made along the coast to reduce our exposure and risk to flooding and erosion threats," said Peter Zuzek, the Pelee Coastal Resilience Committee's project manager.

The open houses will go over the six concepts. Everyone is invited to come and share their thoughts on the ideas.

"We want to hear from everybody that cares about the coastline," added Zuzek.

The committee is asking people to register so they can know how many people attended, however, walk-ins are allowed.

Anyone who can't make it out on Monday can visit the Lakeside Park Pavillion in Kingsville on Tuesday, as two more open houses are being held. The first will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the second from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
