Conservative Chris Lewis has been re-elected in the riding of Essex.
This will be his third term representing the residents in that riding.
Lewis started his victory speech by thanking his wife and family and his volunteers.
Lewis said he can't wait to return to Parliament Hill to try and get cost of living down and help young families, adding it's the top issue he heard at the door campaigning.
"I spoke to so many youth that said I can't afford a home, I can't afford to get by," said Lewis.
Lewis said U.S. tariffs were brought up at the door too, but to a lesser degree and mostly from businesses.
Lewis said he's very proud of Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre despite not forming government, adding it's an honour to serve regardless of the outcome.
"It would have been really sweet to form a government, that's for darn sure, but it's always been an honour to serve," Lewis noted. "I'm very proud of Pierre, he's worked tirelessly and because he's been here so many times, it means the world to me."
Lewis admitted the outcome of the election could have been different if the Conservatives had more time to campaign.
When asked if he hopes the next Parliament should be less combative and more collaborative, Lewis noted he can't control other politicians, but he will continue to take the high road and build relationships to benefit workers, the auto sector, and businesses in the riding of Essex.
Lewis also promised he will keep a close eye on the changing U.S. tariffs and hold the new government accountable.
Lewis beat his closest rival Chris Sutton of the Liberal Party of Canada by more than 15,000 votes.
Voter turnout in Essex was 66.56 per cent with 255 of the 278 polls reporting.
The unofficial results from Elections Canada in Essex are as follows:
Chris Lewis, Conservative, 45,581 or 57.3 per cent
Chris Sutton, Liberal, 29,087 or 36.6 per cent
Lori Wightman, NDP, 4,044 or 5.1 per cent
