Windsor maintains high score in environmental ranking

Windsor is one of the CDP's Cities A-Listers for environmental transparency, climate action, and resilience planning.

CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world's only independent environmental disclosure system. It unearths information jurisdictions need to make sound decisions. Last year, it helped over 24,800 companies and almost a thousand cities, states, and regions disclose their environmental impacts in 2024.

Windsor is one of only eight cities in Canada to make the Cities A-List and one of only 112 cities worldwide.

Other cities in Canada that made the list include Burlington, Calgary, Halifax, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, and Nanaimo.

Cities must meet rigorous criteria to be ranked, including a city-wide emissions inventory, a climate risk and vulnerability assessment, and a published climate action plan.

Since CDP started scoring in 2018, Windsor has consistently scored A-minus or higher, maintaining its position at the highest tier. It has been reporting annually to the non-profit since 2016.

"Windsor is leading by example, by disclosing transparently how it is prioritizing and integrating climate resiliency and sustainability across their city," said Katie Walsh, the head of Climate Finance for Cities, States, and Regions with CDP. "From investing in infrastructure to building stronger local economies and creating jobs, Canadian local governments on CDP's 2024 A-List are forging ahead on climate action."
