Transit Windsor has begun the process of getting area students and staff up to speed on changes beginning this fall.
With the school extras program coming to an end, Transit Windsor has launched a transition plan for four of the city's secondary schools.
Students depending on bus transportation to and from Holy Names Catholic High School, St. Joseph's Catholic High School, Vincent Massey Secondary School, and Riverside Secondary School, will start using regular Transit Windsor buses effective September 2.
"As we work to implement the Transit Windsor Master Plan, our system is becoming more connected, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our community," said Acting Transit Windsor Executive Director Stephan Habrun. "We are excited to welcome high school students who are transitioning from School Extras to our regular transit service, as well as those who are using public transit for the first time."
Over the next two weeks, Transit Windsor representatives will visit each of the four schools to help students learn about the routes, and learn about Transit Windsor’s mobile apps. Students may also have their questions answered about the system and learn helpful riding tips.
The school visits, during lunch hour, are scheduled as follows.
Holy Names Catholic High School: June 3 and June 6 from 11:05 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
St. Joseph's Catholic High School: June 4 from 11:35 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Riverside Secondary School: June 9 from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Vincent Massey Secondary School: June 10 and June 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:55 p.m.
Transit Windsor also said that information will be shared with Grade 8 classes in elementary feeder schools to help incoming high school students prepare for the transition.
Complete information about the transition plan can be found on the City's official website.
