Construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge is 95 per cent complete but there's still lots of systems testing underway.
Chief Relations Officer Heather Grondin told the Annual General Meeting of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island (TWEPI) that the bridge is on track to welcome travellers in the fall.
"There's still some work going on on the bridge deck. The buildings are constructed, now we're really focusing on the interior of the buildings. A lot of paving, these are major areas where traffic is moving so a lot of paving is going on, a lot of landscaping is also starting to take place," said Grondin.
Grondin said a major focus over the next few months will be operational testing.
"Thinking about how all the systems talk to each other, how we're able to process someone at the toll booths, move them forward to the agency processing areas, making sure the lighting works, making sure that card readers at the toll booths work," said Grondin.
Once completed, the bridge will have six lanes of traffic as well as a multi-use trail for cyclists and pedestrians.
