Labour disruption averted at VIA Rail

Approximately 2,400 workers at VIA Rail have a new collective agreement. That's if the members ratify it.

VIA announced it reached a collective agreement with Unifor Local 100 and Unifor's Council 4000 on Friday.

They represent employees working in VIA stations, onboard trains, in the maintenance centre, the VIA Customer Centre, and in administrative offices.

"We are pleased to have reached these tentative agreements with Unifor," said President and CEO of VIA Rail Mario Peloquin. "This important step reflects the commitment and perseverance of both parties throughout the negotiation process."

A date for the ratification vote wasn't announced. If the agreement is, it'll be retroactive to January 1 and remain in effect until December 31, 2027.
