Ward 2 Councillor Fabio Costante has resigned from Windsor City Council to take on a new role at the Windsor Essex Community Housing Corporation.
Costante submitted his resignation on Sunday evening, effective June 26, 2025. He starts his new role as Chief Executive Officer of the CHC on July 7, 2025.
"As we all know, we're in the midst of a housing crisis, not just here in Windsor-Essex but across the country and to me this is my way of contributing most effectively to our community and making the most impact," said Costante.
Costante was selected as the new CEO after an extensive recruitment process.
"Mr. Costante's appointment comes at a pivotal time in CHC's history. CHC's Board of Directors is confident that under Mr. Costante's leadership, CHC will effectively tackle the hurdles posed by the national housing crisis, advancing CHC's mission with purpose and integrity," said Deputy Warden Joe Bachetti, Chair of CHC's Board of Directors.
Costante was a city councillor for Ward 2 for 6.5 years.
"There's too much overlap between the city and the housing corp, and it wouldn't have allowed me to do either job to the fullest extent. I think residents of Ward 2 always deserve a councillor who is able to commit to the job to the fullest extent," said Costante.
Until a new councillor is in place, residents can address their concerns to the mayor's office or city staff. Windsor City Council will need to decide whether to hold a by-election or appoint someone to Ward 2 Councillor position.
"I just want to thank the residents for their support over the years. It's been really an honour to serve, and I would not have been able to do it without their support," said Costante.
