A collaboration between the City of Windsor and community partners has made a third summer of recreation possible at a local park.
The SUPIE (Supervised) Program is back at Mitchell Park, located on Giles Boulevard West off Dougall Avenue. It's part of an effort between the City and the community.
"We are pleased to announce the renewal of our partnership with the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative," said City Manager of Community Programming and Development Nada Tremblay. "With the addition of more City of Windsor staff, enhanced program plans, and upgraded equipment inventory, we are excited to once again deliver high-quality programming to participants of the SUPIE Program."
SUPIE was launched at Mitchell Park in 2023, after residents complained about a rise in rowdiness from youth who were looking for something to do over the summer. Over 250 kids have participated in 2023 and 2024.
"I helped launch this initiative back in 2023 after concerns about aggressive behaviour among youth in the park, and I’m really happy to see this program back for another year," said Ward 3 Councillor Renaldo Agostino. "Part of turning downtown into a true neighbourhood is making sure there are fun, positive things for kids to do."
Programming is available seven days a week through August 30, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., except for the Civic Holiday.
The SUPIE program is free, but registration is required by visiting the Active Windsor website or by calling the City's Central Registration and Booking at (519) 255-1161.
