Windsor police say they've had to deal with an increased number of drivers who believe stop signs and red lights are optional.
This week, police have reminded drivers that failure to come to a complete stop at a stop sign or a red light may result not only in fines, but in a crash.
On Monday, officers with the Traffic Enforcement Unit stopped at least eight drivers within three hours for rolling through stop signs or red lights.
"A few seconds of impatience can carry serious consequences," read a post from Windsor police on social media.
Fines can be steep for these offences, even for a first-time offence.
A conviction for failure to stop at a red light carries a fine of up to $325, plus three demerit points on your driving record. For failure to stop at a stop sign, the fine is up to $110 plus three demerit points. For those cited for careless driving, the potential fine is up to $490, plus six demerit points.
