Windsor police arrest two in whiskey theft

Two more alleged booze bandits have been arrested by Windsor police in connection with a $500,000 heist.

The incident took place at a fenced-in facility on Devon Drive on the evening of May 17. A tractor trailer loaded with over 1,000 boxes of Crown Royal whiskey products was stolen. The trailer was found abandoned and empty the following day on County Road 46 in Lakeshore.

In June, five men and one woman were arrested and charged with the heist.

A 45-year-old man turned himself in to Windsor police on July 10. He is charged with five counts of possession of property over $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 with intent to sell, two counts of prohibited operation of a conveyance, and one count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

On Tuesday, a 42-year-old man was arrested in the area of Reedmere Road and Ontario Street. He is charged with two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000 with intent to sell, one count of wearing a disguise to commit an offence, and one count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

Police say that to date, only 66 boxes of the stolen whiskey have been recovered. The rest are still missing.

The charges have not been proven in court.
