Slate of candidates grows in LaSalle byelection

There are now six candidates who have filed papers to run in LaSalle's byelection to fill a vacancy on the town council.

Mike Seguin and Chris Matis filed their nomination papers soon after the town council voted to hold a vote to replace Councillor Sue Desjarlais, who died in April.

Since then, four more have signed up. They are Brandon Meloche, Brad Krewench, Kate Paddon, and Tory McKay.

McKay told WindsorNewsToday she has long been interested in municipal politics, but only now has she found the time to run while owning and operating her own business, Tory McKay Property Management.

"I've been involved in politics on some level since I was nine years old," she said. "I've been wanting to run for quite some time, and it's the right time now. I could be retiring in five years from my business."

If she's elected, McKay said she would like to see even more investment along LaSalle's waterfront.

"Since it's such a family-oriented area, I would like to see more things geared toward the family," she explained.

She'd also prioritize road rehabilitation and construction.

LaSalle town councillors declared the seat vacant on May 13 and adopted the bylaw to hold the byelection on June 8. Advance polling opens online on October 10, and Election Day is October 20.
