MADD memorial garden unveiled on Windsor's waterfront

A memorial garden in honour of those killed or injured by impaired drivers was unveiled in downtown Windsor on Thursday.

MADD Windsor and Essex County spearheaded the project with the help of the City of Windsor, the Windsor Port Authority, the St. Clair College Alumni Association, and Caesars Windsor Cares.

"It's a wonderful location for victims and survivors of impaired driving to come and find some peace and tranquillity to think of their loved ones and to be able to grieve," said National President Tanya Hansen-Pratt. "The location is also public; it serves as a message to the general public that there is action to be taken against impaired driving."

The memorial is at the foot of Dieppe Gardens, next to the large Canadian flag on Riverside Drive.

There are an average of 215 impaired-driving charges laid every day in Canada.
