Man suspected of hateful graffiti surrenders to Windsor police

Windsor police say a man suspected of spraying racist and homophobic graffiti earlier this month has turned himself in.

Officers responded to Ottawa Street on Sunday, August 10, after graffiti was discovered on numerous electrical boxes and trash cans. They included messages and slurs targeting racial and LGBTQ+ communities.

During an investigation, the Major Crimes Unit identified a 38-year-old man.

Police say he surrendered on Monday at Windsor police headquarters.

He is charged with two counts of public incitement of hatred and one count of mischief under $5,000.

The charges have not been proven in court.

Windsor police would like to thank the public for its assistance in spreading the word.
