Library seeking input on new central branch

The Windsor Public Library is once again seeking the public's opinion on the future of the Central Library Branch.

The Central Library Branch moved to the Paul Martin Building, temporarily, in 2020 after the previous building was sold.

The Paul Martin Building has now been sold and will be the home of a new boutique hotel downtown, and the library needs another new permanent location.

"It's really important to us and to our board of directors to get community input. The Central Library functioning plan was done back in 2018 and as everyone knows there has been lots of changes since then," said CEO Jen Knights. "We want to make sure we're going back out to the public to get their opinions on the different options that we're considering."

The board is holding a public information centre for the new library layout and amenity options on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. It will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.

Three layouts and amenity options will be presented at the PIC. After the PIC the materials and an online survey will be released on the city's website.

"The concepts are designed to have people think about the features and amenities in a future location. They're not going to be set in stone as far as this is what it will look like, but it will give people a starting point," said Knights.

A location for the new branch has not been finalized.

"The Central Branch is kind of the cornerstone of our library system, it has lots of branches or fingers associated with our adult and deaf literacy program, with local history, with the archives and being centrally located, it really is a hub for a lot of folks, particularly in the downtown core," said Knights.
