Ukrainian language books added to Windsor Public Library collection

The Windsor Public Library now has a collection of 80 Ukrainian-language books thanks to the Consulate General of Ukraine.

"We invite the Ukrainian community living in Windsor to come to the library, read the Ukrainian books and maintain their connection with Ukraine," said Ukrainian Consul General Oleh Nikolenko.

The Ukrainian Bookshelf initiative was launched by Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska to help Ukrainians displaced by the war stay connected to their culture.

The 80 books for children and adults are housed at the John Muir Branch but can be circulated throughout the community.

"Windsor is a great city that has a large Ukrainian community. That's why we thought it would be a benefit for the community to have those books," said Nikolenko.

Windsor is one of seven Canadian cities that has received donations through the project.

The Windsor Public Library carries books and resources in more than 90 languages.

"We think this is a valuable addition for folks, particularly knowing that we have such a strong Ukrainian population in the City of Windsor," said Windsor Public Library CEO Jen Knights.
