Windsor-Essex's French-language community was recognized by a local advocacy centre on Friday.
Family Services Windsor-Essex (FSWE) marked the 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag with its first-ever Fête Francophone, a celebration of French language and culture.
The event at FSWE's Windsor headquarters offered Franco-Ontarian food, interactive quizzes, and information booths from local Francophone groups.
"[Friday’s] celebration was an important reminder of FSWE’s commitment to better serving our Francophone community," said FSWE Active Executive Director Ciara Holmes. "We are proud to create a space where French culture should be recognized, valued, and shared."
FSWE, which offers counselling and mental health support, provides French Language Services (FLS), meaning that services are offered in French, and materials in both of Canada's official languages. Efforts are also made frequently to recruit bilingual staff.
The Franco-Ontarian flag, first raised in 1975, continues to serve as a powerful symbol of pride and resilience for Ontario’s Francophone community.
