Torrential downpours in portions of Windsor-Essex have led the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) to issue a flood warning.
An existing flood watch was upgraded for the Town of Essex shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
"The Town of Essex so far has been the most severely impacted by the recent rainfall," said ERCA Water Resources Engineer Tian Martin. "Rain gauges at the southern end of the region have recorded over 60 millimetres of rainfall. The areas currently affected by flooding include County Road 50 in the Town of Essex, between County Road 41 and Wright Road. Areas between these streets have significant water over the roadways, including many roads heading south towards Lake Erie."
County Road 50 between County Road 41 and Wright Road has been closed.
Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Kingsville, Colchester, and Harrow on Wednesday morning. It has since expired.
The total amount of rainfall possible in these areas was revised to 100 millimetres.
The flood warning is due to expire at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
