Organizers of a vigil in Windsor on Tuesday night hope hundreds of people come out to commemorate American right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
They're holding a vigil at Dieppe Park at 7 p.m.
Kirk was shot while speaking to students at Utah Valley University on September 10. He was considered a controversial figure because of comments he had made that were misogynistic, racist, homophobic, and transphobic.
Those who oppose Kirk's views are asked to be respectful.
"This is an event to honour a man who cherished freedom," wrote Elliott Bowen on Facebook.
Patsy Copus, another organizer, anticipates protesters at the vigil, but hopes people are open to respectful dialogue.
"Obviously, we can agree to disagree. There may be some things that people didn't like," she said. "Everybody has an opinion. I respect that he was a devout Christian, a family man. I see pictures of him with his children and think about them growing up without their father, and for someone to take his life out of hate was just horrible."
The event is taking place on the International Day of Truth and Reconciliation, but organizers stated the timing of the event was predicated by a similar vigil taking place across the Detroit River at Hart Plaza in Detroit.
