According to Premier Doug Ford, three companies are interested in taking over the Diageo bottling plant in Amherstburg.
Diageo announced at the end of August that it intended to shut down the plant in February, putting 200 workers represented by Unifor Local 200 out of work.
Ford, expressing anger about the closure, has vowed to remove Diageo products from LCBO shelves if the plant does close.
Despite his frustration, on Tuesday, Ford offered those workers some hope.
"The good news is we have three companies that are very interested in their facility, buying their facility, taking on their employees. So, it would be great news if we could land one of those companies to take it over," said Ford. "But as sure as I'm sitting here, that Crown Royal is coming off the shelves the second the last person walks out."
Ford admitted he hasn't spoken to Diageo recently, and he didn't name the three companies.
The union has a meeting with company officials scheduled in November.
Diageo owns other well-known brands, including Guinness, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, and Johnnie Walker.
The company stated in August that it was closing the plant to streamline its North American supply chain.
