A local farm is collecting funds for its employees' whose homes were destroyed when Hurricane Melissa ravaged Jamaica on Tuesday.
Brad Raymont of Raymont's Berries says there are nine men from Jamaica who work on his farm each summer. Some of them have been coming to their farm for over 10 years.
Seven of the workers had already returned home, while two are still in Essex County and are hoping to return to Jamaica as soon as possible.
"We still haven't heard from three of them that are more in the worst hit areas so we're still hoping they're okay and everyone is doing well, that's the main thing," said Raymont.
Raymont said he knows all of the families are going to need help to repair and rebuild.
"There's just a lot of damage, no hydro, flooded houses, flooded roads," said Raymont.
Raymont is accepting donations to support his workers through e-transfer or at the market until November 2.
"Without them we really wouldn't exist any more. We need their help to harvest on the farm and with all the devastation going on in Jamaica, we're just trying to figure out any way we can help," said Raymont.
Local favourite, Dairy Freez is also donating all proceeds from its last day, Friday, to the farm workers.
