The Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland is launching the 4th Annual Burger Battle.
To raise funds for local charities the Rotary Club is selling $20 passports that entitles the holder to buy one get one free burger and fries at each of the participating restaurants.
"We always hope that we can exceed what we did the previous year, so last year we raised over $15,000, so this year we're hoping we can raise more than that. All the net proceeds go back into our communities to help a number of charities," said campaign chair Ann Hetherington.
Since 2023, the Burger Battle has raised over $30,000 for organizations like Soup Shack, Street Help, Welcome Centre Shelter for Women, Residence for Young Men, and IRIS House.
After attending the restaurants, the passport holders can then vote for the best burger through the Rotary Club's website. This year there will be three prize categories; one for best burger in Windsor, one for best burger in Essex County, and one for best fries.
Joe Schmoe’s in LaSalle has won best burger in the region for the last two years.
"The first year that we did win, we got a lot of feedback from customers who said 'we heard about you winning on the radio,' there was a lot of word of mouth," said Candice Lavigne, owner of Joe Schmoe's restaurant. "When we won the following year as well, we all got so excited as a team that this wasn't a one-off. We did it and we did it even better."
The passports are on sale now and can be used between January 5 and March 26.
