It'll be crowded in downtown Detroit on Thursday. Tens of thousands of people are expected for the 99th Thanksgiving Parade, Turkey Trot, and Detroit Lions game against Green Bay.
This year's parade gets underway at 8:45 a.m. at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Kirby Street and will continue up Woodward to Congress Street.
That means some roads in downtown Detroit will shut down, and some have already.
As of 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, Woodward between W. Grand Boulevard and Warren Street is closed. Woodward closes at noon between Warren and Congress Street. Atwater between Civic Centre Drive and the Residence Water's Square Valet will close at 1:30 p.m. Finally, at 6 p.m., Griswold will shut down between Fort Street and Congress.
Woodward Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. on Thursday to 4 p.m.
Starting at 5 a.m. on Thursday until 10 a.m., the following roads will be shut down.
*West Jefferson will close between the Lodge Freeway and Cabacier
*Michigan at Cass
*Fort Street between Trumbull to Woodward
*Congress from Shelby to Randolph
* Larned between Shelby and Randolph
* Shelby from Congress to Michigan
* Michigan from Cass to Woodward
*Monroe between Woodward and Randolph
*Lafayette Boulevard between Trumbull to Griswold
*Washington Boulevard from Adams to Congress
Starting at 7 a.m., the southbound Lodge exit at Jefferson/Cobo will close, and the Larned Street Exit 1A and 1B will close.
The Larned exit will reopen after the Turkey Trot.
Parking at street meters across the city is free on Thursday and Friday.
The Grand Marshals of the parade this year are Mayor Mike Duggan and television journalist Devin Scillian. Other celebrities are expected to make an appearance, including Detroit Lions running back Dexter Bussey, actor Christopher McDonald, actor and comedian Sam Richardson, Miss Michigan 2025 Hannah Palmer, and Hooper of the Detroit Pistons.
The parade features 29 award-winning floats, six giant balloons, and nine marching bands.
The Detroit-Green Bay game starts at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
