Bright Lights Windsor opens Friday night

The wait is over for those excited about the return of Bright Lights Windsor.

The ceremonial lighting of the 64-foot tree in Jackson Park is set for 6:30 p.m. with special guests Janet and Len Lassaline.

Janet Lassaline is the granddaughter of former Windsor Mayor Cecil Jackson, for whom the park is named.

The gates open at 5:30 p.m., and once the tree is lit, all the lights across Jackson Park will light up.

The city has been preparing for the opening of Bright Lights Windsor since mid-October.

The event will be open every night, starting at 5:30 p.m. until 10 p.m., until January 7.

Last year, more than 105,000 people came out to enjoy the displays.
