Leamington's Bank Theatre receives Trillium grant of over $168K

A Windsor-Essex community theatre group will be able to enjoy its home, thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Trevor Jones announced on Friday a $168,900 grant for the landmark Bank Theatre.

The venue is used by the Sun Parlour Players Community Theatre.

"The Bank Theatre plays a vital role in fostering creativity, inclusivity, and community engagement by providing opportunities for performers of all ages and abilities," said Jones. "This funding will help expand their impact, support educational and volunteer initiatives, and ensure this important community hub continues to enrich the lives of residents across our region."

The theatre occupies a former Bank of Montreal branch, with a capacity of 211 patrons, accessible seating, and accessible washrooms.

The grant was used to upgrade the theatre's lighting and audio systems, purchase a state-of-the-art screen and projector, install railings for seating access, and purchase tables, chairs, tablecloths, and specialty microphones for productions.

"This extensive project to upgrade these items would not have occurred without the funding generously granted by the Ontario Trillium Foundation," said Bank Theatre President John Moran. "The funding and the upgrades will provide quality community arts programs for generations to come."

Information about the theatre and its programs can be found on its official website.
